I got my wife a brand new Volvo 740 Turbo wagon back in 1987 and I have finally decided it was time for a change. The car is currently not drivable due to lack of shocks, a fuel leak, and God knows what else. It does start right up when I use jumper cables. My questions is what is the best way to sell an old car like this. We are both older and don't want to mess with Craig's list so I'm looking for another alternative.
This will be the first time in 45 years that we will be without a Volvo in our garage so I have a few 240 and 740 spare parts to get rid of too.

Thanks HOONK: I tried Voluparts and they're not interested. But, his advise was NOT to give it away or turn it over to one of those "we buy cars" type places. He said I'd be surprised at how many people collect the old 740T's. The problem is Craig's list. My wife and I are older and our kids have told us Craig's list attracts too many weirdos and have told us not to use it.

FIREBIRDPARTS: I've never been on this Forum before and didn't realize that there was a "FOR SALE" area. I'll get things on there as soon as I get time. After 40+ years of having Volvos, I have several parts to list also. Mostly 240 but there's a 740 radiator in there too..

I too like to avoid Craigslist, tons of spam inquiries and scams. I have good luck selling things on facebook. I use the marketplace and volvo groups.

 

My favorite Craigslist response is "I can't be there to pick it up but I wll send you a check to hold it until I can have somebody stop by"... That's why you shouldn't list your personal info in the ad. Let them reply via Craigslist.

You can use eBay (I've sold used parts and its pretty easy to do) to sell a car. One trick is to list the car as a "parts car" as eBay treats parts for sale differently from selling a car (higher fees on the car sale vs parts).

Also check out car-parts.com to find recycle yards near you to ask what they will offer. You will find that if you can drive it over to the yard, you'll get more than a car that they have to tow My guess is if you can drive it in, you'd get in the $300 range.
