Default S60 OBD question

Hey all.
I live in New Zealand and bought my 2000 S60 T5 5 years ago. I am still totally impressed with it and learning to deal with any issues.
I have replaced many suspension parts and it handles beautifully.
I am now attempting to communicate with it using my laptop and an OBDII adaptor.
I am finding the bluetooth device to be a little difficult.
I have an OBDII to USB cable which I use to talk to my 2001 Triumph Motorcycle.

Question.
Can I use that same cable between my pc and the Volvo.?
I understand that I need different software, and have secured several examples while looking for the one that suits me best - but I need to know that the cable will not damage the Volvo in any way.

Oh.
I have also just purchased a 2001 Volvo V70 - also a T5.
If some is good - more must be better..

Thanks all.

No - not yet.
I guess it is would be hard to answer without knowing details of the cable concerned, but I just wondered if all OBDII/USB cables were wired the same.
Cheers.

I would assume that any obdII reader capable of communicating with your PC would have to abide by an industry standard just like the obdII connection does. Every single car since the mid-90's has the exact same obdII connection in the cabin, somewhere. I only use the Volvo specific Dice tool, and the only other reader i ever hooked up to my S60 was just a handheld POS that gave me generic codes only.

Thanks Matt - that seemed logical to me too - but I was considering the consequences of attaching a potential hazard to my ECU.

Interestingly, my current ELM-based bluetooth unit will converse happily with the V70, but cannot elicit any response from the S60.
LED operation is similar for both cars though.
My S60 is listed as a 2000 model, though the S60 does not seem to appear on any parts lists until 2001.
This was an import ex-Singapore, so perhaps has some differences.

Comments welcome

Cheers.
