Default s70 purchase

I'm looking at buying an S 70; my last volvos were 240 series so I've been away for a while. Is one model better than the rest and are the turbo models asking for trouble, or should I stick with the normally aspirated models. Many good ones to choose from these days. Reliability and fuel mileage are of primary concern in my current economic state. Thanks for any input.

1. Welcome to the forum.

2. Stick with a 1998 model. The 1999 and 2000 models came with the ETM and that is trouble. Don't buy a 1999 or a 2000 model.

3. Turbo's are not asking for trouble. They are much more fun. If you like speed of any kind you wont want a N/A. A turbo model is what you'll want.

Welcome! As S70driver pointed out, Stick with the 98 S70's as that year was the most reliable out of the whole run! Turbo or No turbo? Personally I drove 2 850's last year when I was buying and def. picked the turbo. The NA (what a no turbo is named) is is just not enough power IMO to move the car. Both turbo and Non turbo cars are reliable as long as you service them! Good Luck on your search! My vote is on Turbo..

Default Fuel Mileage

Either of you have any imput on the GLT Turbo vs T-5. I actually like a stiff ride and prefer a stick, though sticks seem rare and both models are told to have plenty of power. Mileage quotes range from 25-35 MPG on the highway. I will tend to focus on mileage and condition vs model, and it seems either of these will suit.

There were only 300 manual S70's imported to the US. GLT (13G) you will have more power off the line since it's a small turbo. T5 (16T) you will have more top end power, but will have a little bit of turbo lag. The 13G's starts to become less effective I'd say at highway speeds from personal experience.
