Volvo 850 Low gear indicator

My son jst called from college and said his winter mode/low gear indicator is flashing along with a check engine light. Any guesses please!!!

My 850 was doing that I dropped the engine pan and replaced the S2 solenoid switch in the tranny and flushed and replaced the fluid...no more problems. Dirty job but I saved a bunch.
