Default Oil Slick on driveway

Awhile back, I made some comments about the lack of maintenance that I've done on my 99 Eclipse. (https://volvoforums.com/m_66572/tm.htm) Today I finally tackled one of the issues that has been the most obvious - my oil-leaking valve cover gasket. I bought the gasket nearly 5 years ago and finally installed it today. Here's the before and after pics to prove it.

Now here's my issue - what do I do about the offensive oil slick that is on my driveway from where I've been parking for the past two years??? See my final exhibit:

^There is stuff that can get grease/oil stains out. Go to Homedepot and ask.

Thanks for the ideas - has anyone used any particular brand in the past?

My dad used to just use kitty litter, but it never really worked very well and we always put it on as soon as the oil was leaked (not two years later).

I did find this list of ideas on eHow.com (http://www.ehow.com/how_113258_clean-oil-spots.html)- I guess I've got some fun ahead of me as I try these ideas out. I was really hoping there wasa product that someone swears by that I can just pour it on and hose it off - butthat's probably just a pipe dream...

Suggested Options:

1. Scrub clean with fresh engine oil.
2. Scrub clean with engine degreaser.
3. Scrub clean with laundry detergent.
4. Scrape away with sander[8D].

More suggested options:

5. Buy more cars, cover entire driveway.
6. Paint driveway black.
7. Paint house black, paint cars black, wear black,
no one will even notice driveway.

Sorry 99VolvoV70 and JPN, all the ideas I had were already
mentioned in the above article.
I think "Scrape away with sander" was the best. :-)

Good luck and let us know what works.

Hi John,

I tried to attach pics of a hand grenade and a mushroom cloud of a nuke, but in this part of the forum, only 5KB attachment is allocated so I had to change my mind[8D].

Another suggested option:
8. Convince your wife and work together for the clean-up. Let me know if you like a suggested scenario.

Thanks for the tips J.... I've decided the best option is to just use Photoshop...

(Hopefully, I'll get a chance to try something this weekend.)

JPN,

I'm always glad to hear your scenarios... Be sure to include my one-year-old dirt-loving son in it.
