My 1990 740 turbo just died in the driveway
I bought a 1990 740 turbo last Saturday, and have driven it every day since...I already put about 250 miles on it. It has about 170k on it.
It's been running great, except for this morning.
I got in to go to work, it started right up.
As I drove down my driveway (about 100 feet), it just quit. I don't think it's a fuel issue because it just died as though I turned it off, and I can smell gas after I try to restart it.
I metered the coil, it is neither opened nor shorted out. It also has power going to it with the ignition on.
There are only 2 things I notice from a visual:
1) There are two ground straps bolted to the firewall: 1 goes to a valve cover bolt, and the other is just hanging, not connected to anything.
2) There is a vacuum hose that's completely rotted through. This hose goes from the intake manifold to a module that seems to lead to the injectors...I can smell gas there. The hose goes from the manifold towards the front of the car, then loops up and back towards the passenger compartment where it connects to this module. I used electrical tape to temporarily seal it up, but the car still will not start. This hose is so rotted that I'm surprised that the car actually ran at all.
While under the hood, I did not see any in line fuses or fuseable links.
Anyone have any ideas what I can try next?
Thanks!

Thanks, wrascal.
I read that I can use a remote starter on the service connector to bump the motor if I don't have someone else to turn the key for me.
Can you tell me where the service connector is?
Also, when looking for a repair manual, it seems that Haynes is the only one out there for my make & year. Are these worthwhile?
Thanks, again for the response. I appreciate the help.
