security protection virus...
My wife got the security protection virus on her computer. Why don't these people get a life. She either got it from somewhere on FaceBook or TV guide website she uses. What a pain in the rear.
I seem to have gotten it taken care of but I don't have 2 hours to deal with that crap. KNOCK IT OFF!!!

tell the wife to stop going to **** sites lol. no issues here with either of those sites though i traditionally use firefox to browse either. i use Microsoft security essentials on all 4 of my computers and its free and works great if you don't use explorer to browse.
i do agree these people making all these viruses need to get a life, especially when they put them on normal everyday sites
oh forgot to mention if it's the one i think it is that you have you won't completely get rid of it till you reformat(i had it about a year ago and it kept creeping back up with computer issues till i reformatted)

Yes I do know FB is full of viruses and no she wont stay off the ****. She says that she is grown and should be able to look at all the **** she wants (just kidding).
I usually manually remove these viruses but that Security Protection one has about 400 different threads so I know I likely only cut off the head and the body is still floating around there somehow. She doesn't visit any sites that are important like Banks or utilities but uses it every day to play games, pretty much theropy for her.
I don't mind re-formatting computers but it is very time consuming.
@ Burn Stains: Yea, I use to have those passing problems when I had my 740. Really sucks. When I got my 1st T-5R things changed dramatically. LOL My first road trip after my timing belt replacement I decided to drop in the slow lane and try to pass 1 or 2 of the 4 or 5 cars that were floating in the fast lane. Well, I had about 1/4 mile to the 18 wheeler in the slow lane and as soon as I got in my lane I punched it. As I passed each vehicle I could hear them floor their cars to no avail. Before I knew it I was past all 5 with some room to spare. When I looked down I was nearing 110 mph. Now I'm glad to have a turbo wagon so I can spank them with pride.

seriously rspi time for reformat. i bet it won't even let you download updated virus definitions or windows updates.and i doesn't allow restore either as you have already seen.save whatever personal files you don't to loose and reformat it but be sure to have all your virus definitions up to date before you go to put any of that stuff back on the computer.
seriously the only places i've heard of people getting that virus from is the freebee **** sites(yes i'll admit that's where i got it before too)

Facebook has games that people like to play for free like FarmVille and some Cooking Diner game, etc. They do give people viruses some times. I have fixed several computers but I do have to reformat about 1/2 of them. I'll reformat it soon but it may be a few days.
My wife uses it to play games and check facebook all day. I have been planning to have a back up hard drive for her but have not been able to get one yet. That way, WHEN she does get a virus I can just drop the other drive in it and keep going. Then use the good drive to clone the messed up one and keep a good backup.

OK, I actually found a hard drive that I used when I had that computer at my office (when I was working). I cloned that hard drive to another, then got it set-up to my wife's needs. Then cloned that drive to her drive, wiping it clean and setting it back up as a virus free, useful drive. Now I have a good back-up drive for her that I can keep handy.
