an S40 for 6k? I have 8 bucks,lol.... NO, no S40's for me. Too small for me and not enough pep. I do want a 240 wagon. Silkhope did find me a wagon and I do have the money for it. However I don't have a car with towing capacity to get that 240 home. Silkhope is a good guy for looking out!

 

Please excuse my thread jacking but I did not want to start a new thread on this subject. I also did not want Gilber to start an emotional outburst thread for me since I just had an outburst a few days ago about my flat panel tv.

Anyway, everytime I turn around I'm having issues with these low profile tires. When I picked up the car, 3 out of 5 tires were bad. The spare, Kumho Eusta SPT, has some knicks in it and is said NOT to be a winter tire. The others are Kumho Eusta AST and 2 of them had bubbles. So in June I had the 2 with bubbles replaced. The shop put edge weights on them which caused them to leak air. Took me almost 3 months to figure out why they were loosing air. When I learn that I have a flat, while driving, I pull over and can not put air in them with jacking the car because the loose their seal. Then every time I hit a pot hole (I know, stop hitting pot holes already) another tire is damaged with a bubble. So now I have a small bubble on 1 tire, a egg size bubble on another, and I'm running the SPT spare which is not rated for winter use so it went flat today. Had to pull into a gas station, jack up the car, and put air in it. This doesn't even include the frustration of having to get them balanced every 4,000 miles because the simply get out of balance.

I have decided to get 4 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S from Sam's Club with road hazard. That way I can get them balanced every time I feel my steering wheel shacking and get them replaced for free every time I hit a pot hole. From what I can tell, you will never wear a set of these tires out because they get damaged all the freeking time.

So here are my issues with low profile tires:

1. They ride harder than standard profile tires.
2. They have very little air volume in them so loosing a little bit of air causes them to go flat quickly.
3. When you hit pot holes or other harsh uneven payment condition on the roads you will likely damage a tire with a bubble.
4. If they loose air they also loose their seal so you have to jack the car to put air back in them.

Well, I take back one short note, I will likely wear the current tires out before I have the Michelins on. I plan to burn them off the car spinning out or learning how to drift like a few video's we have watched recently.

 

I've seen a few people mention taking a T-5 or so motor and installing them in the earlier model Volvo's like the 240's or 700 series cars. If you do this will this make the car FWD?

That sucks about the tires. What size tires were you running?

MMmmmm...I like where your mind is. I still say you get a 245 and drop a T6 motor in it, come on man, twin turbo 245? Just say it to yourself, say it out loud. That sounds nice doesn't it?

 

I'm running the stock size for the T-5R, 205/45/17. Kumho AST's and the spare has the ECSTA which is a better tire but not rated for winter.

Yeah, it's beautiful, not a wagon, but still beautiful. I'd rather have a track car like this that I can drive than a street car that can get me in trouble.

My guess is that it's a 242 Group A Homologated with (obviously) a wide body kit on it.

Looks like Im going to have to park my dream of owning a 240 wagon somewhere as I just can't seem to find a 240 wagon anywhere int he state of Fla for a reasonable price, however I did find an850 Wagon for $800 not too far form here. It does need some work, but for $800 bucks not too shabby! What r your thoughts? Aaaaand Go!

 

Take that 800 and put it towards a 245. You'll buy the 850 and start wishing you would have held out for a 245. My two cents.

 

Gil, yes you are correct.. However being the enterpeneur I am, maybe I buy it, fix it and then flip it for a profit. However I know I am going to fall in love with it just like my current 850

 

I think your best bet for finding a 245 is behind someone's house. The good thing about that is they will usually just about give it away.

 

Wouldn't I wished I found something like that here in town... WIth the weather being awesome 90% of the time and no snow (salt) on the grounds, most of the 240s in town are in good condition and being driver daily! Thise owners also want ALL the money in the world also....

 

I'll keep my eye out for you. Not sure how that will work out. Then I would want to gouge you.
