Well Shorty, that has been happening quite often up until this past October. The Texas Volvo Crew was a melting pot of Swedespeed, Volvospeed, Turbobricks and VCOA members...lately, as happens, there has been some discord on that board. Still..there are plenty of TB folks in SA and Austin. SwedishBee, Rnasequence, Crazychopstick and Kerry are all in the area and are usually down for a meet at the drop of a hat. Too, we usually have a March meet in the SA/Austin area...right now weather is so iffy...sucks to have a meet when it's cold and wet!!

Believe it or not, there was a small group of 4-5 of us from here in the Dallas area seriously considering it a couple years ago...just didn't work out. There's also a nice, family oriented, fun packed weekend called the Texas Mile...just more fun in the sun! TEXAS MILE // OFFICIAL SITE // 3 DAYS, 1 MILE: NO SPEED LIMIT

OK, I have several questions about the Texas Mile...
A mile is not that far, better than nothing I guess. I'm wondering if my car will reach it's top speed in 1 mile? Not sure.
If you run the race, do they give you a track ticket like they do at the drag strip? With your time to 60, time to 1/8 mile with speed, time to 1/4 mile with speed, etc???
Do you get to run the race more than 1 time?
Is there a lot of partying going one? Like a place that Art Mann would need to attend?
Is the visitor's pass really only $15 per person? Do you have to pay to park your car there as well?
Is it like a big car show as well? People showing off their cars that are not in the race?
Looks like it would be a lot of fun for a day or so, but it's a long haul for me, 600 miles.

Thanks for the intro on the Texas Mile. I was unaware.
Looks like this race is at the Goliad County airport. Runway is 8000 feet plus a little overrun at each end. Some cars are going pretty fast. Lamborghinis appear to have poor overall aerodynamics.
As you may recall, Colonel Fannin and his army were holed up at the mission in Goliad after the Alamo in 1836. The mission at Goliad actually was a better fort than the Alamo, but Fannin abandoned it at Houston's order.
Fannin's army was caught in the open and was captured by the Mexicans. He and about 350 men were later put to death at Santa Ana's order.
These atrocities cost Santa Ana severely at San Jacinto. Remember, paybacks are a bitch!
If you are in Goliad a tour of the old mission is a must. Very impressive.
