Default VW Jetta Performance Mods

Hi everyone -

I have a friend at work with a base model 2001 Jetta.
He is looking to upgrade its performance. (I'm assuming speed/acceleration)
I told him I would ask around for advice/opinions.

What should be his first step? (after stage 0)
Best bang for the buck?

Thanks on behalf

Rick

1. You have to ask him what his budget is.

2. You have to ask him what he wants. Performance engine wise, suspension wise. Or Interior, exterior mods.

3. Show him some aftermarket websites such as EuroSportTuning.

1. His initial budget is $200-$300 but plans to add on after.

2. Performance = engine wise

3. I'll be sure to mention EST tomorrow at work.

That is a small budget.

Maybe an ECU upgrade from SpeedTuning USA is in order.

It is a small budget.
ECU Upgrade was the first thing I suggested actually. Would/could he gain anything?

Don't know. Don't even know if ST USA offers an ECU upgrade for the base model. But I would have him contact them and find out. I forgot he was a base model.

200-300 gets you nowhere. Your best bet is either exhaust or headers.

That's around that range, maybe 100-200 more for the headers...
