Intercooler? hey guys. so my s40 is tuned and running 12 psi. will an aftermarket intercooler. not a huge one but appropriate size make any difference? I do live in Texas by the way sooooo hot. but with airflow will itmake the car more responsive?

On my 01 the IAT was always as hot as the coolant as the inter-cooler was between the 2 radiator.Soon as I installed a FMIC the temp went down to ambient which was a good 100-120F drop. Now you didn't say which year your car is and I don't know anything about cars after 04 but you get the idea and remember you get a 1% increase in HP for every 10 degrees you lower the intake air temp.

Your car would benefit greatly by installing a FMIC just like mine.Getting a bigger one just to replace the OEM one on the same spot will do nothing for you.

You gonna have to cut some but do go crazy.See my pix in my album.I didn't have to cut the opening bigger only had to cut space for the depth and the pipes.

thats exactly the size im looking for. the stock intercooler seems so restrictive it looks like a radiator. tiny tiny passages. do you recall the kit or the dimensions of that intercooler? it looks like it fits perfectly. I know it must have better top end performance, does it kill any down low torque or response? turbo lag?

The main problem with the factory IC is that it is squeezed between the radiator(runs up to 214F) and the AC condenser which runs even hotter. With the FMIC the car pulls as hard during summer like it did with the stock winter. At this point I don't care if its 120F outside the car pulls hard.No additional lag either.I will try to see if I find the receipt for the cooler but it was long years ago.

do you have a rough idea of the size of the intercooler?
i know they do not have to be big at all if they are a high flowing FMIC. anything is better than that ridiculous stock one oh and where did you mount the temp sensor. its threaded correct?

I did measure the core is 20" then 4" on both side for the pipes.I think it is 7"tall and 2.5" deep and 28" overall in length.
I made a pipe to accommodate the IAT and the pressure sensor.Rather ghetto as I didn't have access to a welder so I used J&B weld to mount the Alu block with the holes/threads to the pipe. Its been like this for about 10 years I'm guessing it will stay this way.
