All; I have 2006 XC90, V8 & my power steering pump makes a hideous whining sound on first start with cold temp outside, once it warms up a bit it gets quieter until normal operating temp then no more noise. Has anyone else experienced this too? I will probably change the pump but what is the procedure for bleeding the system? Thanks in advance. Will

 

You may have the wrong fluid in there. Volvo requires a special fluid and most people don't know that and use some conventional fluid and that leads to exactly what you describe.

 

Like above poster, many had the wrong fluid and the pump was noisy. Also inspect accessories belt.
