Hey! I am new here because I am hoping to join the long line of proud 240 owners. I've got my eye on one in Philadelphia, but the asking price seems WAAAAAY too high! It is being sold by an eBay dealer for $10,995.

As you can see from the posting, the car looks very very good. I can tell work has been put into it, but even so I don't think it's $11k's worth of effort. Below are some reasons I feel the car should go for less:


*It's 26 years old (duh)
*The car's history is clean but incomplete, probably becuase it's so old.
*The maintenance records are missing. I will probably end up accomplishing or paying someone else to accomplish all of the scheduled maintenance to reset the clock, so to speak.
*The tires don't seem to have much tread left.
*There are plenty of Volvo 240s out there.


I went ahead and put a refundable deposit on it with the final price being conditional upon inspection and test drive. Tomorrow the dealer is taking the car to an independent mechanic that I chose for a PPI. I am hoping to get it for around 7 grand assuming it is well sorted. What do you think is a reasonable price? Thanks for the help! I hope to come back with many questions regarding maintaining my Volvo 240!

3 year gap from last registration.
No service history.
$4000, not a penny more.

(for me personally, It's a $2500 car that's been shined up).

 

yeah, The miles it has is way too many for that price.
It is clean, and has the M47 (which is kind of rare).

nothing special about that car though.

then again, prices for 240s have been going up.
I got just over 7000 for my old beige from the insurance.
Could have sold my car for a little more than that if it came down to it.

he will probably end up selling it for ~$4000. that is an actually fair price for it.

tell him when he has trouble finding a buyer to call you???....?

I got a 75 242 with 49,000 original miles for $3000. the link to the car is in my sig.
car was in alright shape, but that is what happens on the east coast.

 

Tires on it were 14 yrs old.
