Default ’84 242 Carb replacement

My 242 came equipped with the (apparently dreaded) Solex Cisac and for the whole time I’ve owned it it’s never ran all that good. I’ve had 3 different shops try their hand at tuning it and even tried it myself as I have experience with carbs.
The carb has been rebuilt, valve and ignition timing has been checked multiple times, vacuum leaks all have been checked.

Yet time and time again I’m always having starting problems due to what seems to be too rich of a mix and be the engine cold or hot it backfires both into the intake and exhaust and looking at the plugs overall it’s running lean.

I’ve decided that now is the time and have started looking at replacement carbs.

I know from talking to the rally folk around here that 45mm Webers are great but they’re really quite expensive at 550€ each. I know the Chinese FAJS Weber-copies exist and they’re only 230€ a pop but I can’t find much info about those.
i’ve also looked at carbs the V8 folk are using and if info I found on another forum about the cfm on the 45mm Webers is correct then a 750cfm Edelbrock would be about the same size but I’m having doubts about that since after all that’s meant for a 5+ liter V8 and not a 2 liter 4 banger

Any help and experience would be appreciated as I’m at a loss to what carb put on the Volvo.
