1977 242 5-Speed - Advice before buying?
Looking at a '77 242 DL coupe with manual. Would be my first Volvo but want a project car for my son and I. Worked on older cars before but only Pontiac and Mercury. Noticing that these are typically going for about three times more than a ten year newer 240 sedan, for example. Is that typical? Not a lot of book values available. Also, any advice on what to look for other than the obvious cosmetic, noises, etc?

well, a 77 is a 40 year old car now... and it uses CIS-E aka KE-Jetronic injection, for which its very hard to find expertise or parts anymore. There was a pretty good website, k-jet.org, that covered these, but it went away a year or so ago and all the early volvo service documentation it hosted is gone.
the high values are likely because there aren't many early 240's left in decent condition, and they do have a certain hipster cachet to them, with their slimmer body lines and such.
my personal experience is mostly in mid 80s and later cars, with LH electronic injection.
