Default Possibly Buying a 240 Wagon

Hey everyone!

I am new here and new to Volvos in general. I currently drive a 1998 Honda Civic EX with 225,000 miles. I am not looking to replace my Honda, just adding another car. I have been looking at 240 wagons and FELL IN LOVE! The few I can find around me (Ohio) are early 90s models. One is a 1991 which doesn't start, and the other a 1993 which seems to be in pretty good condition. I'm leaning more toward the 1993, you know, since it runs. I was wondering the differences between the years and if this is a good decision. It would mostly be a 3rd car, just for fun. Just because I want something quirky basically. Any advice would be great! I would love to be a Volvo lover!

the differences are really miniscule. the later years (1989+) all use LH2.4 injection, same engine, same transmission, same rear axle, everything is virtually identiclal year to year

There will be a difference in luxury features from a DL or GL.

Default Thanks

Ok, thanks! I kind of thought, just from looking at Volvos that changes would be minor. The particular one I'm looking at has cloth interior, which isn't a problem. It has 270k miles and the guy lists the most recent maintenance on the ad and says more is available upon request, so I am assuming its been pretty well taken care of.

You guys are awesome! Maybe I will join the Volvo family!

DL vs GL varies with the year. our 87 GL got a manual sunroof, leather heated seats, and not much more. oh, tach and separate clock.

There are really no GLs after 1989 or so...

Interesting... I see they played around a little, making a SE in '91, a GL in '92, and dropped tags after that.

Yeah, fascinating. There is a GL listed in '92 although I have never seen one in the US. Still, there is probably one or two somewhere... Even the Classic in '93 just gave you a plaque and "special" wheels...

Antilock brakes and airbags. Do they both have em? I thought that was '92 and '93?

1989+ are mechanically and in every other way pretty much identical with only the slightest changes. 1983-1988 had LH2.2 injection, and mostly used the same AW70 transmission. cars older than 1982 were K-jet, and had older transmissions.
