Hello, first post on this forum, looking forward to being here. I have a 1985 Volvo 740 GLE 4 speed+overdrive, and I am replacing the timing belt. Now, what I need to know is, how do you get the bottom part of the cover off? I was looking at it in shop class today, but didn't have enough time to figure it out. Thanks a lot, bye!

 

Once the Crank pulley is off there is 2 screws holding the cover on.
One is a 12mm and the other is a 10mm.

NOTEMake sure when you put the Crank pulley back on you get the Tab lined up correctly.
You will see the tab on the crank timing gear once you get it apart.

 

Ok, thanks a lot, that's what I thought I needed to do, but was not sure.

 

Is posible to replace the 740 gle timing belt alone?
