Default 1985 volvo 740 turbo troubles

Hi my name is John. I'm new not sure if this is correct spot for technical questions.
I've been having trouble with leaking fuel filter. I think I figured that out thou. Now I have car started with no leaks the inline fuel pump is making a squealing noise. It is also getting very hot. Bout the same as a hot light bulb. Is this normal or is this telling me my pump is bad or another problem. Any insight would be appreciated.

I don't know how hot it's getting but the squealing is not a good sign! It does sound like a new pump may be a good idea.

A noisy main fuel pump many times indicates a failed in-tank pump. I would check the in-tank pump and replace as necessary.

Thank you. I'll give an update on my car. I replaced the inline (underneath car) fuel pump. It ran great for 5 minutes or so. Then I heard the same noise as before with old pump. It is a whiney sound. Almost as if under pressure. The pump was also hot again too. I've read that it could be a clogged sock filter or is the pump bad?
I'm not too upset, the car is a 1985 with 80,000 miles. So new fuel pumps probably aren't a bad idea anyway. Anyhow I appreciate the input and any advice, tricks for getting the in-tank fuel pump out. Any chance it is the Fuel pressure regulator or the fuel pump relay? Thanks everyone its nice to be able to bounce ideas off of other people thanks again.

this guy is replacing a 'regina' pump on a 740 but the procedure is the same for the bosch booster pump..

Volvo Fuel Tank Pump/Sender Replacement

if your car is a wagon, fold the back seats down, then lift the 'flaps' behind the back seats, and remove the couple screws that hold them down and lift those flaps and the half panels they hinge off of back, that will expose the pump access. if its a sedan, its as shown.
