Hello, my 1985 740 GLE is giving me lots of crap. I think the starter just went out, and when I push started it, it blew out a plume of oil smoke. And it only started after much argument(I.E had to push it with a truck while in gear to make the engine start, when before it would only have to be rolling 5-10 in reverse), and I would like to know what that would mean. Also, I just replaced the fuel filter, and now it is idling at about 2500 rpms. I am very displeased with this right now, I'd really appreciate the help you guys could give me. Thanks.

 

Have you been driving this car regularily or has it been in storage?

 

Well, it hasn't been driven regularly, but has been started up at least every couple of months. BTW I just replaced the spark plugs, timing belt, oil, and as I said the fuel filter. I just noticed that someone stole the gas cap, and that may be a cause as to why it is jacked up. Plus one of the fuel return lines has a hole in it. So I will fix those and get back to you.
