Default 1986 740 GLE Speedometer, Headlight and Air Vent Issues!

Hello. New to the forum and thanks in advance for any help. I am an old grease monkey at 69. Always worked on my own stuff but not a professional tech by any means. Bought a 1986 740 GLE (non-turbo) at an estate auction a week ago. Overall it's in great shape. 289,000 miles, engine starts and runs well, tranny shifts like it should, drove it 30 miles home and tracks well, a solid ride. The body (dark blue) is in amazing shape, the rest of the interior is really nice, new Michelins.

Issues? Speedometer not working, dash controls for direction of interior air from the vents not working, headlight issue.

1. Speedometer: The odometer is working fine. Fuel and temp gauges are good. I have read that the speed sensor and the actual instrument cluster circuit board are the primary culprits. The driver's door handle is broken and needs to be replaced. Went to Pull-A-Part (Charlotte, NC) yesterday as they had one sedan on the lot. Got the door handle but also removed the instrument panel which appears to be in good shape. For $32 I could not pass it up so I can swap them out if need be to see if this is the issue. Any ideas?

2. The air controls do not divert the direction of the interior air flow at all. The levers seem to be connected. The AC is not working but the compressor clutch is engaging. Of course, first thing is to have the AC charged and check for leaks. The levers are the issue. Vacuum leak? I read that the control valves on the back of the control unit may be clogged or have trash in the lines.

3. The low beam headlights work but when I pull up on the lever for the high beams, the passenger side high beam is not working. Advance has these for 10 bucks. The odd thing is the low beam on that side goes out when the high beam (that is burned out) is engaged. Not sure how they are wired but perhaps if the high beam is out the low on that side will not work as well. Ideas?

The oil needed changing badly. Did that yesterday with high mileage. What kind of current tranny fluid do we use? Thanks in advance for any information. Much appreciated! These forums are just the best.
