Default 1987 240 cranks, but won’t start /:

Hello,

Im new here and I need some help. I have a 1987 240 DL wagon and it just will not start. I checked if it was getting any spark from the plugs and it was and when I pulled one plug out it was obvious from the sound that one was out so it’s getting fuel. Not sure what else to check. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,
Chase.

I'm not sure how that is obvious you're getting fuel. was the spark plug wet? have you tried a puff of starter fluid in the intake when cranking ? if that makes it fire for a second, then yeah, time to investigate the fuel injection.

have you checked an injector electrical connector with a 'noid light' ? (should blink when the injector is fired)

have you checked the fuel pressure at the injector rail when you're cranking?

have you done a compression test on all 4 cylinders?

Im in the same boat. My 86 is doing the same thing. It has spark and fuel but wont kick over. Starting fluid makes it "seem" like it wants to kick over. I found an ECU for 20$ and that kinda seemed to help it almost start???? I put the original back in and measured the 1st winding on coil, that passed. The secondary is at 12.5K which as far as the book says is too high.

I did use the fuel pumps to pump out old gas and I added 4 gallons of fresh stuff. Smalls better, but still looks like apple juice. I imagine from sitting, Its gonna take a while for that to stop.

I am swapping out this engine for a V8, but I would like it to run on its own power so I can move it etc.. until the swap. Plus I refuse to accept defeat. So I am looking for help as the original poster.

Thanks!!!
