Default 1987 240 Key replacement

My daughter has a 1988 240GL sedan. She purchased it very used and only got one key with it. I'm assuming it is the valet key since it doesn't open the glove compartment. The key broke in the door lock today. Since we have a single car driveway and her car is blocking mine in, we are looking for a quick replacement solution. The nearest Volvo dealership is more than an hour away. Any suggestions for a speedy replacement?

nowdays a dealer won't sell you the key by VIN without you bringing the car physically to them, and the key has to be ordered and takes a few days (week?). ouch.

afaik, noone else can do key-by-VIN other than a dealer. a good locksmith might be able to extract the bent/broken key then make a copy of it.

need to get replacement key for a 1989 Volvo 245 DL. How do I do This? I've got 2 Volvo's, a 122S Wagon, also. It's been parked for 35 years. The 245 DL has been parked since 2006. How do I do this?

you bring the title down to a volvo dealer's parts counter, and order keys by VIN. AFAIK, they'll still do this. dunno if they go back to the 122's, however, that one might need new locks all the way around, if those are even available. my Volvo parts catalog, from circa 2003, only goes back to 240s, nothing older. Only car maker I know that does stuff like that for 40 year old cars is Mercedes, if you're willing to pay their Classic Center, they will sell you original parts for anything they've ever made going back to the 1920s. regular dealer parts can get nearly everything for cars back to the mid 50s such as the 219 "Ponton"

I emailed my title and drivers license to a local Volvo dealership and they provided me with my key code. I then took that code to a locksmith and they manually cut a new key for me, took about an hour in total.
