1987 245 dl- Wiper issues, front and rear have stopped.
Hi all. I'm a new member to the forum, but have used ya'll for several trouble shooting issues over the last couple years. So thank you for helping with most of my problems.
I drive a 1987 240dl wagon here in Kentucky that's been in the family since I was born. It's in excellent condition for its age with more than 300,000 miles approximately (the odometer stopped working in 1998 at 199,000). Again, thank you for helping me keep it up.
So, here's my current issue. I was driving the other day in the rain and the wipers suddenly stopped (front and rear). Since they stopped completely in the down position and won't move, I knew it wasn't the relay and assumed it was the motor or trans/pulley system. I took out the panels inside on the passenger side and the glove box to look at the system. I detached the nut from inside the car to dismount the wiper motor from the trans system. With my hand I can move the trans system, and the wiper blades move as well, telling me that the trans arms and all are correctly hooked up and nothing is loose. Naturally, i assumed it was the wiper motor. So, I ordered one and am currently waiting for it to arrive.
Then today I was thinking and thought, "wait, this wouldn't account for the rear wiper blade stopping as well." I'm pretty sure that the rear one is on a completely different system, relay, motor, etc. Right?
So, I'm guessing it must be something in the electrical system/wiring, or is there some other connection between the two? Any ideas or advice on what it could be and how I can check?
Thanks in advance.

I would have used a volt meter to check for power at the motor wires before I took anything apart. our 240 wiper motor lasted about 400k miles and was getting slower and slower and slower... hahaha. new VDO motor, and zwip-zwip like new, yay! but, dead stopped is more likely to be the wiper switch or power source or wiring.

So the new wiper motor came. I removed the old one again and put in the new one. "ZWIP-ZWIP" both front and rear are working like brand new. Now, the other day before the motor ever arrived I was tinkering with the car. I noticed with the wiper switch on I could go to the rear blade and give it a nudge with my hand and it would go up and come back, but only once. I've also noticed with my car that no matter what I set the switch to there is no setting that allows only the rear wiper to work. It's either front alone, or front and rear. Don't know, but at least it's fixed.
Thanks
