Hello, my first post and my first Volvo. I have been fixing several items over the past couple weeks, but came upon a connector that will not come unplugged. It's for the windshield washer pump which is inoperative. Btw, the tailgate washer pump is good. Thanks for helping a new guy.

have you tried spraying a little kroil or pb blaster on this connector that won't unplug? its likely corroded.

Yes, I sprayed the connector with Kroil which loosened the plug. However the connector will only move fractionally up with the release lever all the way open. Working the plug every which way does not release it. It is a plug type I have never seen before, and I figured there must be a trick to it. Thanks for your suggestion.

Nope there is no trick to it, its just a typical connection. I am thinking maybe the motor fried and cause the connection to weld itself. Just keep working at it.

Thanks, John, I will follow your suggestion today and keep working at it and report back. Btw, I have two new pumps on order.

The connectors are now both removed from the pumps and are serviceable. In order to accomplish this, I broke off the plastic sides surrounding the pump sockets. Once these were loose, the connectors were easy to unplug. Many thanks to pierce and John for their suggestions and expertise.

put some dielectric grease in there before plugging into the new pump, the next guy will thank you!

ditto any other connectors you unplug/replug at any point. a bit of silicone dielectric grease on the contacts keeps the corrosion out..

That sounds like good advise to me on a connection like that. Thank you for the detailed suggestion.

Default Washer pumps, 1987 245 DL

To all who helped or are otherwise interested, there is a picture of the new washer pumps in my photo album titled Maintenance. I added some dielectric grease to the connectors for good measure and everything worked okay. Bob
