Volvo used to offer a discount for models that had a faulty engine wiring harness, like my model (1987 740 turbo, B230FT).

Does anybody know if this offer still holds? Because IPD wants $454 for a new wiring harness.

After all, it was a faulty design on Volvo's part.

 

Did you ever find an answer to your question? Or another vendor with a less expensive solution? I just acquired a 1987 744 NA with 112k and have observed cracked insulation on several wires in the engine compartment. No gremlins noted yet, but I expect it's only a matter of time and I should address the issue now. IPD wants $400 for the NA version.

Barton's site looks very promising. I seem to have gotten off lucky though, as my volvo mechanic said today that the main engine harness looks like it was replaced by the PO. The cracked wires were just grounds, which I can easily redo cheaply.
