Default 1987 Volvo 240 dl - Changing the Oil Filter?! Help!

So I have been trying to change my oil filter but I have a problem.
The problem is that the oil filter won't budge. The filter is being trapped by a large piece of rubber that looks a bit like it might be a shock mount for the engine???

The Rubber 'Donut' Like thing can be seen here:

From underneath it looks like this:

I it normal for this part to be touching the oil filter? It is really wedged into contact with the oil filter. It seems incredibly difficult and I do not know how I will get the new oil filter back on because this big piece of rubber will be in the way and whilst it is 'spongy' it takes a massive force to compress even slightly. Perhaps this rubber thing has come loose and wedged itself under there? I actually noticed that it appears to be coming apart, a torn piece is viewable here:

How can I get the oil filter off and the new one on?
What is this piece of rubber? What could have caused it to tear?
Will I need to hoist the engine (the engine seems to be resting on the rubber part) Will I need to replace this rubber part?

Thank you!

That's just a cushion for the motor mount to absorb vibrations, bumps, etc. Using a floor jack and a small block of wood, support the motor and remove the mount. Change the oil, and if the mount is damaged or heavily worn replace it.

it most certainly should not be touching, and the fact that it is, suggests you have either the wrong mounts or the mount is toast and has allowed the motor to shift from its proper position.

240 engine mounts are designed to fail they are designed to shear in a collision so the engine goes under the passenger compartment, and they should be replaced every few years.

Thanks. Looks like that mount (Passengers side) is torn and the engine has shifted. I've ordered the new mounts. Where should I make contact between the floor jack and the engine? Is there any good spot? I understand that I should put a piece of wood between the jack and the engine.
Thanks for your help.

Be certain you check the transmission mount as well. When it fails, the front to rear orientation shifts and causes this issue much more often than a failed motor mount will.

It's an automatic transmission, the transmission mounts i have seen online seem to be exclusively for Manual Transmission cars? Does the auto have a transmission mount? I've tried finding it to no avail ...
Where is the best place to jack the engine from?

Yes, there is a mount. Look towards the rear of the transmission where there is a cross member. That's where the mount is. Looks like this for an 87.
