1987 Volvo 740 GLE
I found a pretty nice 1987 740GLE non-Turbo for sale. It has 211k miles, is that something to be concerned about? It's said to need new front shocks and the drivers seat (leather) is torn up. Other than that, it's nice. No dents, no rust AZ car, A/C works. Is $1000 a reasonable price. I rarely see one priced that low. Also, why are so many Volvo 740's missing the gas cap door?

Those cars have the 4 cylinder red block engines that are some of the most durable engines around. They typically last 300k+ miles without needing a rebuilt. I have seen many with 350-500k miles and still running strong. The problem is that being a thirty year old car a lot of other components can go bad like wiring. Being a non-turbo car is a plus. The engine is less stressed, requires less maintenance and has less things that can go wrong. As for the gas cap door, the reason you see many of them missing is because the door and hinge is plastic making it rather weak and people are not very careful. Mine is original and has never failed.
