Default 1988 740 non auto climate control hvac system

Hi there. Just got an 88 740 wagon and it is being meticulously restored to factory specs. One of my concerns is the hvac. Upon inspection, previous owner already messed with the system: heater plumbing was by-passed; recirculation shutter vacuum motor is no longer there; and a rotary thermostat for cabin temperature was installed, deleting the need for the cold/hot air mixture shutter door. So, since its a restore project, the hvac needs some attention.
Am using the Hanes manual which gives great information but misses out to show and tell me a bigger picture of the system. I am what most of us are.... a weekend mechanic but Im the slow DIYer when I work, making sure each move will not need to be redone as much as possible. I try to find my way through most of everything with the help of these manuals. Bentley would be better but it doesnt have it for this car.
So.... can anybody recommend another reference for me to use so that a grade 4 pupil will find his way theough this ?? Maybe a comprehensive post right here in this renowned forum.

Help please... and I know someone out there will come to the rescue.

Cheers
Les

Further to the earlier thread, I forgot to ask..... where does this car gwt its vacuum from: is there a vacuum pump hidden somewhere or is there a line tapped to the engine manifold or brake booster as what other cars are set ?

Hi, Les! I recently revived an old thread ( https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...trouble-17048/ ) and received much excellent help from fellow members regarding these systems. Mine's a 1992 but there seem to be many commonalities among cars of that vintage. I just ordered a complete set of manuals, digitized and stored on a thumb drive, from IPDUSA. I haven't opened them yet so I don't know whether a "grade 4 pupil" could navigate them, but I aim to try next chance I get. Like you, I'm a slow DIYer with a restoration project on my hands.

On my 1992 740 turbo wagon, the vacuum for the climate control comes from a line connected to the intake manifold. Beyond that, I can't help you much myself but I think you've come to the right place! A forum search on the word "climate" or "MCC" (for manual climate control, as opposed to "ECC" for electronic climate control) produced enough reading material to keep me occupied for several hours.

Cheers,
Duane

Thank you very much Duane. Ill browse through that in just a while. The car is in the body shop and could be spending some time in there for a quick retouch. If yours is the B230F (withoit turbo) then we should be on the same page. If not then i might do more digging ahead. Well, no rush... Im a DIYer like I said.
Am open to more ideas and tips fellas..... just keep it coming.
Enjoy the rest of the day everybidy !!
Les
