Thanks for reading my post and hopefully helping me fix my volvo.

i have a 1988 740 turbo that has no spark.

Personally I am not a car mechanic but I am very handy and deal with mechanical problems all of the time in a different field.

my car stopped running one day on the highway with no symptoms before it just shut down. When I try to turn it over it just cranks and cranks. When I got the car home i pulled off a spark plug wire and had no spark from it. Then I removed the center wire from the coil to the distributor and still no saprk..

I have looked through a couple forum threads and found out how to test the coils resistance and the primary and secondary were both within specs from my manual.

Also while cranking the engine I had oscillating power, however I dont know what type of power readings I should have. \

Can someone please give me some more test ideas..

 

There could be several things that cause a no spark issue.You need to check for cam rotation first.

Remove the oil filler cap,look down through the hole at the cam,have someone crank the engine over.Is the cam turning?
