January 10, 2020 some scumbag stole my 1989 740 GL from the curb in Columbus Ohio at about noon.
Often stolen cars are recovered once the gas has run out. Not in this case.
So I'm just putting it out there that if in that one in a million chance someone sees it...do something please.
It's actually a kinda distinctive 740...at least it was when I had it.
It had...
That red plastic trim piece on the rear end that covers the area between the taillight assemblies.
About 6 inches of chrome at the bottom of all the doors.
An air dam for the sunroof
Green numbered/lettered Ohio license from 1989 on the rear only. Plate number was "740 SZA". ( Yeah...I thought it was really cool to find a plate on eBay with the numbers 740 for my 740). 00c0c cSYjZcjDKHf 600x450
sorry for your loss. what made you wait til now to post this here!
maybe it's still around your area you may have luck finding it as these models are pretty unusual these days...
A rare occurrence, these cars don't get stolen much, not easy to hotwire, and why do it? Parting it out is not profitable, too distinct to use for a driver, what do you do with it?

Thank you...I guess I waited 'cause I hoped that it was just teens/dope heads that would drive it out of gas and then abandon it...then it gets towed in and I recover it. Columbus has a search function by VIN for all cars towed in the county. It's never shown up as towed by anyone anywhere.
The first week I spent quite a bit of time cruising the streets and alleyways on my side of town looking for it. I did put up a post on nextdoor.com the day off the theft. Daughter posted on FB. Filed police report of course.

If your the friend of the counter clerk at O'Reilly you swap an LS into it and pimp it out i guess.
This O'Reilly is a 30 second walk from my front door...my car was parked on the street about 200 feet from the O'Reilly.
Everytime I saw that counter clerk he would ask if it was for sale..."my buddy got plans for that car". ALWAYS told him not for sale.
The conspiracy/paranoid/fantasy part of me says his buddy decided to steal it...and someday I'll find it at a car show all tricked out 🙄. But that's just my crazy side.
maybe confront the o'reilly counter clerk and say 'so how's your buddy doing with my car'? and watch closely to see if he twitches at all....
just a thought....

Thought crossed my mind as well.
And I know the counter clerk is "kinda shady"...I "caught" him one Sunday morning when they were slow installing an alternator on HIS car. I ain't saying he stole the alt but he was definitely "stealing payroll dollars" by working on his car while on the clock
And he price matched a 5 year warranty battery from $160 to $100 to match AutoZone one year warranty battery. Having worked at advance I know you ain't supposed to do that.
yep i'd be looking that dude in the eyes for sure.. for a start..
