1989 740 gle need help

Default 1989 740 gle need help

98000 miles 740 gle fourcyl.. problem is when car warms up it just stops. peplaced fuel pump relay. tested coil its ok replaced plugs wires and distr. cap. so far same problem. not starving for fuel. runs great when cold as soon as it reaches operating temp or soon thereafter it just cuts off. it will restart but sometimes hard to restart. any suggestions please. i dont have alot of money. hoping something simple. thanks

How about that temperature sensor? From the Volvo Problem Solver -- Probe the gray wire leading from the temp sensor to the 8-terminal connector under the rear brace by the right hood hinge. When the engine is warmed up and the key is in position II (either stalled or running) the gray wire should read low, about 0.1v. The gray wire goes to terminal #4 of the connector mentioned. Use a pin to probe through the insulation. If the voltage is high (3v-5v), suspect a bad temp sensor.

thanks you very much can you tell me where to find the temp sensor i have a book but cant find it. we thought this may be the problem. only if i knew where to look thanks again

Doesthe "check engine" light come on? Normally, a bad temp sensor will cause a fault code in the diagnostic program. The coolant temperature sensor is located on the left side of the cylinder head, below the intake manifold, and towards the rear near cylinder #4. You need to be double jointed to get at it.
