Question 1989 Volvo 240 DL Won't Start

I have a 1989 Volvo 240 DL and it wont start for me. When I turn the key, the engine turn overs but it wont start. I jump started the fuses for the fuel pumps and both are humming. I've replaced the alternator, ignition coil, spark plugs and spark plug wires, and air filter about 2 years ago and the car has been sitting on my driveway since then. I can't figure out what else could be the problem. Could someone help me?

Do you have spark at the plugs and are the injectors working at the fuel rail. Did you check the crank position sensor .

First, fuel or spark?
Make sure the battery has 12+volts, spray some starting fluid into the the intake and try to start it. If it fires up momentarily it's the fuel, if not, spark.

an added note to this, the "bellows" needs to be attached and closed, with all hose clamps tight prior to attempting to start after spraying the starter fluid, as the ecu uses the MAF data to set parameters for fuel. a way to add starting fluid easily is to remove one of the two small hoses that attach to the throttle body at the upper side, right before the throttle plate/butterfly. simply lift one of the hoses off, spray, and replace the hose; then attempt to start the engine.

Right. But we are not looking for a smooth running engine at this point, just a momentary "catch" to establish that it is indeed the lack of fuel causing the no start and not the spark.

I took out the fuel sending unit and the sock filter has a decent sized hole in it. That's going to have to be replaced.
