My 1989 Volvo wagon has bright lights only. I can't get the light switch to dim them. Any suggestions how to fix this?

there's a relay in the engine compartment bolted on the fender near the overflow bottle that controls the highbeam/lowbeams. its a rectangular thing attached to a metal bracket, wires plug into the bottom. the dimmer switch on the steering stalk sends pulses to this relay, which cycles high,low beam. I believe its p/n 1307991.

before swapping the relay, I'd probably want to find the wiring schematic and verify that the dimmer stalk does in fact get to the relay plug (hook a volt meter up to the relay's input that comes from the stalk, have someone cycle the stalk and see if you see volts on/off. the switch might be to ground, then you'd use an ohmmeter setting instead of volts). I don't have a 240 manual handy so i can't give you any pin numbers to sort this out. if the control signal isn't there, then its a wiring or switch issue.

ahhh, google to the rescue, http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~ridgely/V..._240__1990.pdf on page ... ugh, its confusing and complicated the way its drawn, and I don't even see the high/low switch on there, but I think it must be the brown wire to pin 31B on the beam step relay, and I think its switched to ground, not to power
