1990 240 Cruise greenbook needed and diag.
Is there even a greenbook for the 1988? and later cruise system? If you have please let me know where to find. Thanks!
1990 240 M47 cruise control is currently offline. I messed up and used the greenbook info from MAY 1990 (REPRINTED 1986 info) and it is a very different system. I condemned my poor stalk switch too early using the old info and even snipped the wires short which I RARELY ever do. I always leave lots of wire on the part unless its dead, which I though it was.
My 1990 and my spare 1993 stalks I have are testing good, my pedal switches are all testing good.
The system worked before, but the clutch switch went out of alignment due to bent bracked and I finally fixed it, but cruise isn't working. I could have fried the box with my snipping of wires and installing older style stalk in there.
I fried my $300 Alpine headunit the other day letting an exposed speaker wire end touch a heavy guage power wire.
I am good at destroying things. I got a new fuel line today to fix my fuel leak where I fudged the line back at the filter using vice grips. ooops...
Ok so please LMK if you know of a late model 240 cruise greenbook, or even the 700/900 should work. Well as long as its the 9 pin cruise computer and not the later model 12 pin. Suggestions for cruise diagnosis/points of failure always welcome too.

Check out this thread. It contains a wiring diagram for the cruise control for a 1990 240.

Thanks. I have a stack of circuit boards for parts so I will check that.
I have that wiring diagram already and the only part that is unclear on that one to ME is the SET part of the diagram at stalk. That diagram confuses me.

the switch stalk has 4 connections.
in off, nothing is connected, and the set switch connects nowhere.
in on, pins 2 and 1 are connected, and if you push set, pin 3 is also connected
in resume, pins 1 and 4 are connected, and if you push set, 3 too.
pin 1, black-yellow, is switched power from fuse 12
pin 2 is blue-red to pin 1 of the cruise control unit
pin 3 is blue to pin 2 of the CCU
pin 4 is white to pin 6 of the CCU

This is the part of the diagrams that doesn't make sense to me. Please explain to me what the heck this little part of the circuit is. Thanks!
I am going to go take a hammer to one of my spare stalks soon I think and see if I can trace it out! ha.

Same thing on this diagram.....makes no sense to me. Appears to go to nothing that I can tell....
I am going to take my favorite tool, mini sledge, to a spare stalk and see what's inside.
The old stalk is identical to the new style stalk on the outside.
Well I can't find em. Think they got binned. If I find them they will get the hammer treatment.
Thanks for the help! Especially with that greenbook pic. I couldn't find that diagram anywhere.

the 240 DVD from Volvo OTP has the 1990+ cruise manual in as well as year by year wiring diagrams (although a couple years are missing from the early 80s). "Cruise Control 240 1990-" TP 31607/1
these documents are copy protected rather strongly, however, and they block any sort of PDF creator I've tried, as well as clipboard operations, so I've got no way to clone it.
there's not a lot to it, a few pages of fault tracing, then replacement procedures for each sub assembly. the vacuum release valve on the brake (and clutch) lever should have 1.0-1.5mm of shoulder clearance when the pedal is at rest. check the pedal switch for 'closed' (0 ohm) when pedal is at rest, and open (infinite) when pedal is depressed. at the vacuum pump, ground pin 1 and 2, and apply 12V power to pin 3, and the gas pedal should go to the floor. disconnect pin 2 and the pump should stop but pedal stay put. disconnect pin 1 and hte pedal should come up to the top. truth table for testing the cruise swithc at its connector with a test light.

I hope I didnt fry the computer because I cut and spliced an old style stalk into the new style plug and things could have got crossed.....
Hi Pierce, I already installed the Cruise Control kit on my 1993 Volvo 240, now my problem is, I cannot locate the 3Pin Plug so I can plug it to the Pump in the engine compartment. can you please help me locate this harness, it says in the PDF its inside the suspension tower, but cannot find it., Thanks
