Default Question regarding reading mileage via diag port

Hello all,

I have used info in previous posts to read back the mileage of my '95 850 using the diagnostic port. However I have one question. I am getting back a mileage of 152,826 however my car is well over 200K so I'm assuming that I have 252,826. I only get one flash on the last digit of the last sequence.

So my question is, does this feature top out at 100K+ or should I be able to read over 200K IE get two flashes in the last digit?
If so, could I be doing something wrong?

Thanks

Mine will read 200K + so I'm going for you might be doing something wrong.

I realized after posting that I was making a mistake. I was reading the digits in the wrong order. So my mileage is 251,628 which sounds correct.

Thanks.

So I'm guessing that there is no other place the acual mileage is stored other than the cluster............so if the cluster has been replaced, as I suspect, I'll never know the acual mileage on the engine and chassis

Just in case you didn't see this video:

Other than that, why do you need the real mileage?

Oh, the compression of the motor and age of the timing belt is far more important information.

Why are you guessing when we're posting how to ??

We are posting how to find the actual mileage. Did you read ???? The mileage is displayed on the cluster but it's recorded in the ECM.

If the cluster and the ECM have both been replaced you are indeed out of luck.

I don't think it's stored in the ECM.

You may be right. I know most newer cars log it in the ECM. I thought it stored in the ECM but the link I came across from "Lucky" said: In those earlier models that's (the cluster) the only place mileage is tracked in the vehicle. ECM doesn't record it.

And he's one guy that I'd defer to on anything Volvo.

So getting back to Lister99, I'm wrong and yes if the cluster was replaced the original mileage is anyone's guess unless the person who put the replacement cluster in properly reset the replacement with the mileage.

That's my dilema .....everyone says that the cluster is the storage place for the mileage.....I don't have the original cluster, hence the cluster can only tell me how old it is , not my chassis and motor
