Default 1990 240 engine swap options...

ok, so the engine in my 240 might be toast. found a couple of local pick-n-pulls with 240s in them and some with the engines pulled and ready to go. is there a certain year range I need to look for? mine's not a turbo, so I'm guessing I can't put in a turbo (w/as little trouble as possible)...

I'd like this to be as simple as I can make it. take mine out, drop a different one in. some of these engines from online places come with warranties, so I'm leaning towards those a little. but I also found an 89 240 that has a bad transmission, but the guy says it runs fine. he wants $700 for the whole car...some of the engines are around $650, so I was thinking I could buy that car (assuming the engine does, in fact, run well) and swap them both, then sell the other car with the bad engine and tranny as a parts car.

any ideas? good idea? bad idea?

is there a way to swap in a turbo without having to do a bunch of extra work? it's definitely not needed, but if it's just as easy as swapping in a non-turbo, why not, right?

Going TURBO is a lot more work, you are correct!

Going with the $700 '89 seems like a good idea since you can hear the motor run, and then deal with the rest as you say... A little more work, but worth it...

cool...turbo option is out. anyone have experience ordering engines online? here's one that I'm looking at:

1992 Volvo 240 Engine Sales > Buy High Quality Used Engines/Motors at Great Discount (Huge Selection)!

higher miles, but if they are warrantying it for a year...must not be in bad shape?

oops...the 89 is actually an 84 240. will that engine still work? or is it too old?

is your engine a B230F ? pretty much any B230F can be interchanged, just move your engines sensors and manifolds and stuff to it.

if that donor car is old enough(I'm not sure the cutoff date) it could be a B23F or B21F, that might be trickier to adapt to the newer EFI and stuff.

I got a little mixed up by the posts. your 1990 is definitely a B230F, its the 84 donor I'm less sure of. 84 might be K-jet fuel injection instead of LH, and even if its LH, its LH-II, not the 2.2 used in the later 80s, and the LH 2.4 used from 88 or 89 on, which is what your car has.

nuts...so it's looking like buying an engine online is probably my best bet.

my tranny probably wouldn't swap into the 84 then, would it? that seems to be the only issue with that car...
