She has been one hell of a faithful car, but I need to move on and was hoping to find someone who would appreciate her - possibly fix her up or make use of her working/intact parts.
Last week I suspect that her head gasket failed just as I got to work - running rough, spewing white smoke from the tail pipe, and an empty coolant reservoir. I was able to drive her the 26 miles home by adding coolant before I left work, and once again about 1/2 way as her temp started to approach the red. Checking her dipstick today, I'm pretty sure that there's coolant in with oil. Up to this point, the engine ran strong (for a 240 Volvo) and smooth. She's been leaking a bit of oil for years now - no more that a quart between oil changes. The right rear control arm bushing needs replacing and the right front brake just started grating and I see the outer part of the rotor is scored. Most everything else works on her - all 4 windows (just replaced 2 non-working with 2 working used ones) - but you can definitely tell she is a 32 year old girl that has hauled a lot of pug (dog) in her day (she was my "dog" car for years and years). She currently is wearing 4 almost new studded snow tires and has a set of 4 mounted all-seasons that have a little life left in them.
She has been in the family since her beginning. My aunt & uncle bought her new, when they passed she went to my parents, and I have the pleasure of her company since 1999. I have repair records spanning my time with her.
The local junk car dealer offered $150 for her, and said he was just gonna send her to the scrap heap. If you would like her, and can convince me of your Volvo appreciating sincerity, I am willing to donate her to someone that might attempt to fix her or make good use of her salvageable parts. She lives in Hickory, NC. Contact me if you want her and please share your plans for her.
240 prices, along with everything else, are up, up, up! The problem is the blown HG which makes it a hard sell. If you take care of that, a couple of grand is what it'd be worth on the West Coast, can't say about your neck of the woods...
You may want to advertise it AS-IS, you should get more than $150 for sure.
Lev, maybe being the fool, I was looking to give it away to someone that really appreciates these cars, and especially to someone who might want to fix her. That's one reason this forum is my initial foray into offering to part with her.
Maybe you can store it until you or a family member are ready to fix the head gasket? This car belongs in your family. The rest of the world sees it as a collection of valuable used parts or a cheap car to fix up and then flip. I think you will one day wish it was still yours. Do you have a garage or carport to tuck it into until you are ready?
Boy wish I could figure out have the get it up to NY. I have a 1993 Volvo 240 wagon that was hit in the front end and needs a hood, left front fender, core support grill and head lights. Only has 120k on it. This would be the perfect donor car.

Very interested. Two possible routes; parts for my ‘89 low mileage 245, or fix her and give to son so he stops trying to grab mine! Love the blue. PM sent
