1990 240DL problems
Ok first off and most importantly the stalling issue
-Car will stall at any given time. From sitting in traffic to cruising down the freeway at 80mph. (Possible fuel pump issue?) When the car dies at speed its like the throttle goes to idle or below idle speed and wont give the car gas. Then the engine completely dies then my power steering goes out and the brake pedal is difficult to push.
-Check engine light will come on for no apparent reason and stay on. Same with "overdrive" (its an automatic)
-Car battery dies in around 3 days if I dont drive everyday (alternator replacement?)
I took the car into a shop that specializes in Volvos while it was there they:
-Adjusted idle (was not able to sit and idle without one foot on gas/brake)
-installed refurbished air mass sensor
-cleaned air filter
Car drove fine for like a week then all of the old problems came back except for the idle problem which is ok now.
I am not willing to go and pay another $400 just to have my car run for 1 week. I am at my wits end and am seriously considering just junking the car. This is way to frustrating!
Thanks

RE: 1990 240DL problems
Has the engine speed sensor and or the fuel pump relay been replaced yet? Those are the 2 main causes of stalling problems with the 240,740 models. The battery issue is something diffrent.Do you have aftermarket equiptment in the car?Sometimes the glove box light stays on and kills the battery.
