Default 1990 740 power window wiring

Hello,
I am troubleshooting the window wiring on a 740. The drivers door controls are dead. The passengers door controls are fine. Checking the wiring in the door, the red yellow wires do not have power. If I jumper power to the red yellow wires, the window controls work.

It looks like I either have a broken wire, or a bad connection at the fuse panel. I can get to the fuse panel and pull it part way out. However, I can not figure out how to get to the underside of the panel to check the connections.

Any thoughts??

Thanks

Mike

I had the same problem with my 940. The part of the power wire that's between the door and the body broke internally after 30 years of bending back and forth during opening and closing the door. Check for power under the left side of the dash, where the red/yellow wire leaves the.body on it's way to the door. If it does, it also creased on and off for years and broke inside the insulation.

Good guess, but the fuses are ok. That said, with full function if I jumper power to the door, it seems odd that the only wire to break was the power wire.

Thanks. This was my best guess. Frankly, I don't bend as well as I used to and I was hoping to avoid lying upside down in the Volvo while I troubleshot wiring under the dash. Also, I get full function if I jumper power to the door, which seems to imply that only the power wire broke. Seems unlikely.

Looks like I am crawling around under the dash.

Does the cable from the door connect to a connector on the car side of the door?

Thanks all, greatly appreciated. I will post an update once I get the issue addressed, then two more to go before it is a safe driver for my kid to learn in.

That's exactly what happened on my car - just the power wire broke. Where the door cord comes into the body there is a connector there. I just found where the break was, between the door and the body and soldered it. Problem solved.
