Default 1990 740 turbo now stalling

I replaced the Mass Airflow Sensor after a check engine light and corresponding code appeared. The light has gone out after the replacement, but now stalls after 5-10 seconds of idling.. Runs better, and at lower Rpms, when unplugged. Anyideas?

if it idles with the MAF unplugged and fails with it plugged in, your replacement MAF is likely bad. was this a no-name refurbished MAF?

Yes, a cheap one.. It ran much better with the original MAF, despite the check engine light. Also, when the 'new' one was installed, and now I run the car with it unplugged, the gear shift indicator arrow flashes.. Is that a certain code or a separate fault? Strange. Thank you.

is this a manual or automatic? I know of nothing that would make the automatic overdrive light to blink, its simply connected to the opposite polarity of the OD solenoid (light on, solenoid off. light off, solenoid on).

this if this is the "you should upshift" light on a manual, its probably cycling because its confused based on the bad input of the MAF
