Default 1990 740T Rim size?

So I bought someones old snow tires with rims in good condition.
The tires size was the same so I thought great no problem.

However after doing a test drive I realized that the front wheels and rims were rubbing on the struts?
Anyway I quickly removed them.

Is there a certain depth rim that will work better on 740's?

Thanks Greg

So what was the car that they came from. Do we assume another Volvo. Did you measure the off-set to see if they were the same?

The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel (measured in millimeters). I believe there is a difference from an 850 and your car. The result would be interference of the tire and either the suspension or the body work. Depending on whether it is a positive of negative offset you may be able to get spacers or maybe you can't use these wheels.

beginning w/ 850's, Volvo's were front wheel drive...the wheel offset is different although the bolt pattern is the same. You need spacers to run them. Incidentally, the 90 turbo had 16x6.5 Hydra wheels standard.

How can I determine the spacer size needed?

The simplest way is to take pictures of the wheels you bought and get on turbobricks.com and ask in the maintenance section. I don't keep up with that stuff as I have a completely unsupported bias against spacers. I will tell you this...the cheapest thing to do is either eBay the ones you have or CraigsList 'em and buy some correct rims. Spacers seem to command a premium price. Also, depending on the existing wheels, the front takes more of an offset than the rear.

You do the math. Spacers cost about $50-$100 each .
