Default 1990 740T voltage drops off at startup

It runs fine, but right after starting up, the voltage drops off, sometimes I have to give it a little gas to keep it running, and then it runs fine and the voltage stays good. The battery is being charged fine, I check it with a voltmeter, it reads around 13.8 V consistently and it has a new battery. I am just trying to figure out why it is doing this at startup.

Thanks!

My 90 turbo wagon sort of does this sometimes. Every now and then, the charge and ABS light will come on and stay on till I give it a few revs, then it's fine.
I just think it's the regulator on the alternator not getting "excited" till the revs rise.

Regards, Andrew.

^^^This ABS lights will light anytime it doesn't see 12 volts. Most always, ime, it is the excitor wire or circuit. Sometimes a good gase ground helps. I added a 12 gauge case ground on my 144 but it still occasionally has this issue.

Yes, the ABS system is pretty clever, it protects itself from over/under voltages and disables itself as part of it's initial self test. Unfortunately, I learned all about it chasing my ABS system problems, all of which are now fixed!
I should also add that my alternator also has a six month old regulator/brush holder in it too, so I think you are onto something with the exciter wire/ground.

Regards, Andrew.
