1991 Volvo 240 Battery drain

Default 1991 Volvo 240 Battery drain

Im trying to sort out a battery drain on my 1991 Volvo 240. Ive localized it to fuse 8. Seems the general consensus is that the most common battery drains on this model are on the dome light timer relay or the central locks. I have disabled both and still have a 2 amp drain. The car will drain the battery in 2 days without starting. I have also removed the glove box light and truck courtesy light thus eliminating everything on that fuse. When the fuse is removed the drain drops to just a few milliamps. Any suggestions on where else to look? Thanks, Dave

did you try disconnecting the power antenna in the back? also see if any aftermarket stuff has glommed onto that antenna power wire back there (trailer light/brake controllers, etc)

in the trunk, its a green wire that connects to a green-red wire at the 4-pin connector near the antenna. fuse 8 also powers the factory radio equalizer/amplifier as well as memory power for the radio itself.

Hello Pierce...since I posted yesterday I decided to dig further in the fuse block. There are 3 pins with power leads running off to designated functions. I disconnected the first one...checked my multimeter and the drain had dropped to .006 milliamps. Meanwhile the central locks still works, clock still works and dome light timer still works. Radio (aftermarket) does not power up. Wierd because in all my troubleshooting the radio is one of the first things I disconnected. The radio does work and did before I pulled the power drain lead. Anyway..I figured I would run another lead to the radio and just leave that wire off the pin for now. I guess there is an issue with the memory power wire for the radio or something in that connection. I will pull the radio and investigate further. BTW....the power antenna was removed as some point because it has a manual mast now. Thanks for your input. Dave.

on the 240 fuse block, one pin is the power input to the fuse, the other two are the power output of the fuse. IIRC, the left-most pin is the input, and the middle and rightmost pins are the outputs.
