Default 1991 Volvo 240 For sale, what's it worth

Hello All,

I discovered a 1991 Volvo 240 in very good condition with 100 miles on it. We don't see many of these in Ottawa so I was wondering if the price is reasonable. The seller is asking $5500 CDN. Please let me know your thoughts:

Mint looking 1991 Volvo 240 (a tank of a car) | classic cars | Gatineau | Kijiji

Thank you!

i'm not sure any 240 is worth $5000 anymores, maybe a totally cherry wagon thats mechanically and visually perfect.

I've seen cars in this condition go for about that here in Austin Texas, my current wagon I got for $500 however, my last one, $800

I've seen some lousy ones go for 4k

240's are an interesting commodity...they have almost no physical value anymore, they are at the point where they are starting to appreciate in value although, only to fans.

its worth anywhere from 1,000-6,000 in my opinion
it simply matters how long its been up online and how much interest you have in it.

It's a US version car, so when was it imported to Canada? Ownership records, maintenance? Few 1991 Volvos have working odometers. Records would show mileage history besides what was done. Rust is always concern especially for northern cars, so check on that carefully. The interior looks beautiful. Prices are going up for ALL older cars in good condition and low miles, may be worth that, what like $3,500US? Always hate the "tank" reference... Love the "asking" but "firm" pricing...

The odometer works and there is a stack of ownership papers including the original bill of sale. The car has been rustproofed since it has been in Canada and never winter driven. The body looks perfect for the age. I am going to have it inspected by a local Volvo Mechanic (not a dealer) and see what he thinks. Also, Ontario vehicles must pass an emissions test and a safety so the seller has agreed I can walk away if any of these are not to my satisfaction. Keep you posted. Thanks

agree with lev, something in the low to mid 3000's basis us $. if receipts really show $2000 in recent repairs/parts then a good deal. red color not my cup of tea but certainly will be noticed!

Well I took the 240 to a good Volvo mechanic and he looked it over very carefully and found a few problems: broken engine mount, seized rear calipers, leaky valve gasket, worn rear mount bushings. The repairs would cost $1600, so I basically told the owner he would have to pay it all or I would walk away. Offer some pretty hard negotiating I got the original price down from $5500 to $4800 with an extra set of new tires on Rims. He also will pay 100% of the repair. I found out he got the car form his Grandfather so he probably paid very little for the vehicle.

My mechanic, who has been repairing Volvos for 32 years said he had not seen a 1991 in such good condition in many years and basically said if you love the car, buy it!

If all goes well it should be in my garage Saturday. I will post some pics once it is home!!

so about 3600 in us $. not bad considering the condition and the extra work being done. if it just turned 100k miles make sure the timing belt/water pump was done.
good find!
