Default What do you think my 1991 Volvo 240 is worth?

Hello there and thank you for reading my post.

I am in a situation where I need to sell my Volvo (unfortunately). Would anyone out there with more knowledge than myself be willing to provide a rough idea of what my 1991 Volvo 240 is worth?

I've checked Edmunds and some other sites online and they range from $650 - $1500 (US dollars). I initially listed for $900 and have received e-mails saying I'm not asking enough. I felt as though I was too much? HELP!

I will try to attach some photos to this post but here is my ad:

I own a used, dependable, and efficient 1991 VOLVO 240 that I am looking to sell. It's a mid-size, 4-door car with burgundy exterior (no rust or dents) and tan interior (no rips, tears, or major stains). It's got a 4 cylinder engine with automatic transmission and currently has (only) 140,000 miles on it. It gets approx. 27-30 mpg on the highway and 22-24 mpg in the city. This Volvo was not smoked in and features hot heat, heated seats, moonroof (no leaks), power locks/windows, good tires and more. If you need a car that will start and get you from point A to B in a warm fashion this car will do the trick.

With that said and as is the case with any older vehicle this Volvo does have some idiosyncrasies. For example, the speedometer is moody - sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn't (used part + labor = $100-125 if you took it in somewhere). The driver's side rear exterior door handle came off - I have the handle, but not the time to replace it. The windshield wiper motor needs replaced (I survived with Rain X). I kept the car around after purchasing a van for work purposes because it would be a great car for someone who has the skills and time to fix the cosmetic issues - the car would be perfect for a Volvo fan that knows how to work on them!

The only other issue I can think of is that the turn signal light cover on the driver's side is broken - the lights still function properly.

I live in the Midwest, Nebraska to be exact.

What are your thoughts on its worth? Thanks in advance!

Check Craigslist in your area to see what others are priced at. You can see which ones don't sell (higher priced ones) and the ones that disappear in a few days. That should give you a good idea.

I live in the Chicago area and generally a 240 of that vintage ranges about what Edmonds is stating. Usually you can find a halfway decent one for around $1000. At that price they typically have a few more miles on them than yours does (~200k).

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it! I listed the Volvo yesterday $1000 exactly... so thankfully I'm not too high (or low).

I initially listed for $600 (ha!) and had 15 responses within 24 hours. A guy offered me $900 (was from out of town) and of course he hasn't shown up, but he "might" this weekend. So I relisted it asking $1000 and have gotten two responses in 24 hours... hmmmmm. Thanks again for the response!
