Once all that was tightened down, it was time to pull a vacuum to get any moisture out and test the system. Pulled a vacuum for about an hour. While that was going on I tightened all the bolts on the mounting hardware on the compressor, mounted the belts and tightened the belt adjusters. I put the air cleaner back in and reconnected the MAF and air intake tube.

After pulling vacuum for an hour, I turned off the vacuum pump. The needle moved over time so I knew there was a leak. I pressurized the system with nitrogen and listened. The leak was at the low pressure temperature switch. I had missed putting an o-ring on the port it attaches to. The schrader valve in the old service port was also leaking a little so I replaced that. After that, it passed a long nitrogen pressure test. Pulled a vacuum again to take out any moisture that had gotten in. Began to charge system with the R134a. This is a first time for me so I was surprised at how long it took for the system to begin cycling on and off and how long it took to charge fully. In the end, I think it took 25 ounces of coolant before the system was working like it should. The signal for me was when the low pressure line coming out of the evaporator started to show condensation on the outside. It’s been working really well since then. With all the stories of underwhelming R134 conversions, I have been very happy with the way it cools. I'll check back in if I run into problems.
