1992 Volvo 240 Spare Key broke in passenger side door lock!!!!
Hey Everyone,
My door locks on my car have been giving me a hard time. My dad suggested I lubricate them and that's exactly what I did. Now they feel like brand new locks. Except for my passenger door lock. Before I did the lubrication my spare key broke in the lock. I bought a locksmith tool set but there is no way to get the broken key out from the outside because of the "vertical door" that gets in the way. I have tried researching on how to take the door lock off or apart and I cant find anything. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

I've removed the door lock on a 740, I assume a 240 is similar....
basically, remove the inside door panel, remove the weather barrier (plastic sheet). remove the anti-theft guard (curved metal barrier inside door, held on by a big screw near the lock latch in the door jam). fumble around and disconnect the pushrod from the lock, then there's a spring clip you slide off and the lock just comes out the door.
buy a new lock from Volvo, take it and your existing keys to a GOOD locksmith, and they should be able to re-key the new lock to match your existing vehicle keys.
reassembly is the opposite of disassembly

Volvo PN 1382351 or 1382355 is a lock kit for the right-hand door cylinder. one of those, you give the dealer your car's VIN number, and get the lock with the CORRECT keying already. I don't know if this works anymore.
my locksmith said like $50 or something to rekey a lock if I bring it to him already out of the car along with the key to that lock, and the key to the car that I want to use....
