Default 1993 940 auto transmission shifting problem

1993 940 (non turbo) the automatic transmission yesterday started not shifting into overdrive normally. After it finally shifted it worked the rest of the trip. This morning it shifted very FIRMLY. But went thru all the gears properly. This afternoon it started not shifting into overdrive again and seemed to stay in second gear to long. Basically it is just not acting right???? PLEASE HELP!!!! I have a 1989 740 Turbo parts car also, is the transmission the same?????

I just drove it again and here is what it is currently doing -

It wont shift from one gear to the next unless you are under full throttle (6000 RPM's) once the shift is made it seems to drop out of gear if you let off the throttle. You notice this the most in 3rd gear because of trying to maintain the speed limit.

What connection is there between the transmission and idle speed? I notice if you let your foot off the throttle the RPM's jump between 1500-2000 but when you come to a stop and it goes back into 1st gear the RPM's stabalize.

If there is a shift solenoid where is it located?

Check the kick down cable at the throttle wheel. The cable mounts to a bracket with 2 13mm nuts.
The cable should be tight but not real tight. See how much slack is in it. Also make sure it moves and isn't frozen.

The cable is broken.

Could this be the cause of all the problems?

Where is the best place to buy this cable?

Would it be the same on my 1989 740 Turbo parts car?

THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The cable should be the same.
Yes it affects the shifting.

You will have to drop the trans pan to replace it.

Is the reason you have to drop the pan to attach the end of the cable?
