Shifter Not Shifting Into Park on a 1993 940
Ok guys, so I've ran into another snag, when I went to start up my car for the first time since I replaced the head gasket it took a while to start up and was bogged down(like it was stuck in gear). I got under the hood and revved it up a bit and when I did it kind of jumped at me also acting like it was in gear, thankfully I had the e-brake pulled up haha. I then went into the car and noticed the car would not rev above 2000 rpms. So I shifted it into neutral and the car sounded much better and revved freely and wasn't bogged down. I turned the car off and shifted it into park and then I noticed something, I heard a click when I shifted from neutral to reverse, but I didn't hear a click when I shifted from reverse to park and had to shove it into park but I don't think it actually went into park, if that makes sense. I searched this and couldn't really find any problems like this, I found a few saying they couldn't shift out of park but thats different from my problem.
What could be causing this? Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

time to climb under the car (get it up on ramps or a stand) and check the shift linkage. there's an arm sticking down out of the side of the shifter, it has a rod that goes forward to engage a lever on the side of the transmission. there's supposed to be plastic bushings on each end of that rod, they wear out, then the metal-on-metal starts to wear, then it all goes downhill.

Alright, I'll check that out tomorrow definitely. I havent had much time between work and rain to check it out, but I finally got it running pretty good as far as cranking and starting, I've got a vacuum leak somewhere that I have to trace down, but other than that I think its going to be a sweet lil ride! Thanks again Pierce!

I suppose its remotely possible the park safety lock is somehow stuck such that its keeping it from going all the way into park.. you might put it in neutral, and stick your finger into the back end of the slot the shift lever moves in, and just under that back edge is a 'trigger' that goes up/down to manually release this park lock when you're in park and it won't come out. try wiggling this up/down. it should be in the down position normally, you lift it to disengage the park safety latch. THEN try putting it in park....
