Default 1994 940 Fuel Pump

I was wondering if you guys know how much a fuel pump replacement should cost on average. I have a feeling my mechanic is ripping me off .
Thanks

Is your car n/a or turbo? If n/a do you have Bosh ignition or Rex Regina? Assuming you have the Regina model, you can tell by looking nder the car for a fuel filter and fuel pump. The Bosch system has 2 pumps; a low pressure lift pump within the gas tank, and a high pressure in-line pump under the car. The Regina has only a single, high pressure pump within the gas tank.
Labor for the in tank pump is roughly 1.5 hours. The under car pump is 3/4 hour.
My labor rate at the shop is $80 an hour. So...the intank pump would cost you $120 labor and $100-150 for an after market pump. Bosch is considerably higher.
Owning a shop, I will tell you straight up...mechanics don't rip you off by price; typically this is agreed upon before work is initiated. Any shop owner that allows more than $50 work done without the owner's prior consent is a fool. No, where mechanics rip people off is by not understanding the vehicle, not having the training, experience and proper equipment to diagnose an issue. Too many shops have kids throwing parts on cars until it hopefully gets fixed.
In answer to your question, an intank pump could cost $200-300. Under car pump close to the same as labor is less but pump is more.
Here's the bottom line...unless you're Bill Gates or Warren Buffet...a 16 year old Volvo will eat your lunch if you have to have all the service done at a shop. If you are unable or unwilling to learn your car and attempt many of the repairs yourself...I'd recommend selling it. I don't mean to be mean spirited at all. I have Volvos that are 20 to 37 years old. If I couldn't do the work myself, I'd buy a Honda.
PRICES MENTIONED ARE HERE IN DALLAS, TEXAS. OBVIOUSLY SOME AREAS OF THE COUNTRY ARE HIGHER, SOME LOWER.
